Lightweight clothing that moves
Choose breathable, quick-drying fabric and a fit that will not catch in the chain or saddle. Very loose trousers and long flowing skirts are awkward on a bicycle. Padded cycling shorts are optional for half-day rides.
Closed, secure footwear
Trainers or secure sport sandals are better than flip-flops. You may walk through markets, carry the bike briefly or board a ferry, so use a sole with grip.
Sun and hydration
Use sunscreen before departure and bring sunglasses that stay in place. A cap can help during stops but may not fit under a helmet. Tours commonly provide water, yet carrying a small refillable bottle is sensible.
A light rain layer
A compact poncho or breathable shell is enough for most travellers. Some operators provide ponchos, but do not assume this. Avoid heavy waterproof layers that trap heat.
Temple visits and local context
Some routes enter temple compounds. Shoulders and knees are best kept covered when going inside formal religious spaces. A light overshirt or scarf can make this easy without dressing heavily for the whole ride.
Leave valuables behind
Carry only what can fit securely in a small bag. Use a wrist strap when taking photos at stops and put the phone away before moving. Confirm whether the operator has storage at the meeting point.
